Christian Priorities: Biblical Wisdom to set right priorities as a Christian

Christian-Priorities

Christian Priorities: Putting God First

As a Christian, your number 1 priority should be God, at every season of your life. While other life and relationship priorities may keep changing depending on circumstances and seasons of your life, your priority number 1 should always be reserved for God and God alone; any drift from that leads to idolatry.

An idol is something that you value above God. Do you have any idols in your life? Ask God to show you if you have prioritized anything or anybody else above Him and if He says “yes”, change the order immediately.

Matthew 6:33 - But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

Christian Priorities: Communication with God

For any relationship to grow and sustain, communication is needed. The more you communicate and share about yourself and know about the other person, the more the relationship is strengthened. This is true in the case of your relationship with God as well. If you want to grow closer to God, you must communicate with Him often.

How do you communicate with God? Through Prayer (You speak with God) and God speaks with you (Reading and meditating on God’s word)

Matthew 26:41 - Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Ephesians 6:18 - Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Matthew 4:4 - But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Christian Priorities: Obeying God

We live in a world where temptations and distractions are everywhere. You don’t have to look for them. If you switch on your TV, it is there. If you step out of your home, it is there. If you go to your school or college or office or even Church, it is there. Obeying God is the essence of abundant life in Christ. Obedience to God brings immense joy, purpose and fulfilment.

Acts 5:29-Then Peter and the [other] apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men.

Christian Priorities: Loving God over man

As Christians, we must love everyone, especially the God-given relationships. However, we must be careful not to put any relationship or person above God. No one can love you more than the one who gave His life for you, on the cross and He alone deserves your first love.

Mathew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Christian Priorities: Pleasing God over man

In the world of social media, insecurities and comparison, we tend to make our choices and decisions for the approval of people. We seek to please people and look perfect in their eyes. The goal of a Christian must be to please God, not man.

Galatians 1:10-For do I now persuade men or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

John 12:43-For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

Christian Priorities: Treasures

A Christian must be Heavenly minded. We must live like others who do not know God. They live to earn as much money as possible and to please themselves. We as Christians, have a higher calling, as high as Heaven.

Colossians 3:2-Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Matthew 6:33-But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

More Bible Verses on setting priorities as a Christian:

Luke 10:

38Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

39And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.

40But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

41And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Luke 12:34-For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Exodus 20:3-Thou shall have no other gods before me.

1 Timothy 3:5-(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

Luke 12:22-34-And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

Deuteronomy 6:5-And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all your heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Mark 8:36-37-For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

John 14:15-If ye love me, keep my commandments.
