Faith in God is the basis for the fabulous character and good works of the Proverbs 31 woman. An unsaved woman cannot fear the Lord. Fear does not always refer to fear of punishment of sin, but it also means standing in awe of God and His greatness.
If you want to be a virtuous woman, you must first have Jesus as your Saviour and then out of love and fear for Him, you must strive to please Him.
Proverbs 31:30
"Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised."
People who have high standards of living are trustworthy. This is demonstrated by their responsibility and boundaries in every area of their lives. Aren't Christians supposed to be the people of integrity, shining the light of Christ everywhere?
Proverbs 31:11
"The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her so that he shall have no need of spoil."
Proverbs 31:12
"She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."
Usually, God's best for us is outside our comfort zone. We must always be willing to put in the extra effort and discipline needed to achieve our spiritual goals and accomplish God's purposes for our lives.
Proverbs 31:14
"She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar."
Proverbs 31:15
"She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens."
Life is full of choices. We must make the most of our time, resources and gifts as good stewards of the grace of God. Do you invest wisely in the lives of others, to make an impact on God's kingdom?
Proverbs 31:16
"She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard."
Many times we sin by being idle. We must plan our time wisely for work, ministry, family, fun, rest etc. How many weekends did you waste by just lying on the bed or sofa and binge-watching some useless TV shows for the most part of the day? Think of your lifestyle and see how you can make the best use of your time for God's glory.
Proverbs 31:27
"She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness."
Without planning and counting the cost, it is hard for any business to succeed. The Bible encourages wise planning, visioning and counting the cost while giving control to God and letting Him amend our plans and course according to His will.
Proverbs 31:18
"She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night."
Proverbs 31:21
"She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet."
The Proverbs 31 woman is kind to her maidens. She helps the poor and needy with the fortune she receives. Do you use your God-given money for serving Him and helping the poor in His name?
Proverbs 31:15
"She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens."
Proverbs 31:20
"She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy."
